Dr. Tina Chakravarty

Dr. Tina Chakravarty completed her MA in Social Work from TISS, after graduating from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University with a Psychology Major degree. She worked briefly in Delhi with an organisation on law and gender, and in Shillong with an organisation working with children. She enrolled in an MA course, this time in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics. Followed by an M Phil and Ph D degree from The School of Social Sciences, TISS. Her research at the M Phil included medicalisation of mental disorder and for her Ph d she analysed the interface in approaches to mental disorder in India, including psychiatry, Ayurveda and traditional healers. She has taught in the Mass Media Department for six years and briefly, for a year, in the Sociology department at Sophia College, Mumbai, before joining the Liberal Studies department in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, HSNC University, Mumbai. Her areas of research interest include mental health, interface between epistemologies, science and interdisciplinary studies, specially conflating Psychology and Sociology.
