Personal Details: Name : Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Maharashtra Heritage : Royal lineage of the Manikya dynasty of Tripura
Political Career:
30+ years of experience in politics and public service.
Shri Jishnu Dev Varma embarked on his political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1993 and was elected as a National Council member representing Tripura. He held the position of General Secretary, overseeing organizational matters for the Tripura Pradesh BJP.
In 2018, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma contested the State Assembly Election from the 19 Charilam ST Constituency, where he garnered an unprecedented victory securing 89.33% of the total votes cast.
Shri Jishnu Dev Varma was appointed as Governor of Telangana on 31st July 2024. He took oath as the Governor of Maharashtra on 10th March 2026.

Notable Work:
Shri Jishnu Dev Varma served as Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura from 2018, after 25 years of Left Front rule, taking on key portfolios such as Finance, Rural Development, and Power. During his five-year tenure, he focused on delivering projects, securing finances, and meeting deadlines.
Bio Village 2.0, implemented successfully in Tripura, is an innovative initiative of Shri Varma aimed at promoting sustainable development in rural areas by integrating eco-friendly practices into agriculture, energy, and livelihood activities. With a strong emphasis on community participation, Bio Village 2.0 supported local farmers and households in adopting green technologies and sustainable practices, positioning Tripura as a leader in sustainable rural development. This initiative has been recognised as one of the best international practices.
He was a prominent member of the North-Eastern Council Advisory Committee from 1989 to 1993, playing a pivotal role in shaping policies for the North Eastern Region.
He also served as the Convener of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Tripura Chapter and coordinated initiatives for the Trust across the North-East.
